Building your future with personal finance and housing literacy

In Atikamekw, Manikaso means “the one who builds.” The Manikaso Centre’s mission is to empower First Nations people and provide them with tools to make the best financial literacy and housing decisions.

Our purpose

The number of housing units in our communities is woefully inadequate. Only 20% of needs are being met. The remainder needs to be built or renovated. The financial needs for housing in Quebec’s First Nations communities are estimated at over $4 billion.

This situation has an impact on the quality of life, academic success and retention of young people in our communities. In other words, it’s a stumbling block to our culture.

The Manikaso Centre’s role is to put in place conditions conducive to housing development among First Nations by providing awareness, education and support activities.

The status quo is not an option. Let’s build a better future together.

What can the Manikaso Centre do for you?

Community residents

If you live in a First Nations community or urban centre in Quebec, the Manikaso team is here to support you. We can provide you with training and advice on personal finance and housing, as well as tools to help you make the best decisions for your personal situation.

That way, you’ll be better prepared to help build a better future for your family, your community and future generations.

Local stakeholders

If you’re a local stakeholder, such as a housing consultant, financial advisor or band council member, we can help you help others. Because you too can make a difference.

Our team can support you in meeting the needs of your community with a presentation of the services available, a group workshop and tools or documentation that can be shared with members of your community.

Our partners

The Manikaso Centre is a project initiated by the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission. It was created in collaboration with a number of financial and business partners.
